Privatize East Moline Garbage Collection

afscmeOn Monday March 2nd at 6:30pm, the City of East Moline will be voting on whether or not to privatize Garbage Collection Services. We need as many union members and community allies in attendance as possible. The Council voted to approve it in committee despite acknowledging that the residents do not want privatized garbage.

AFSCME Local 1234 has come to the table with a restructured wage scale which would provide both short term and long term savings to the City of East Moline.  Despite this, as of today, 4 city council members and the Mayor still support a plan to privatize sanitation services.
The City is willing to pass along the higher fees charged by the private company IN ADDITION to keeping the $200,000 per year that the residents pay on their tax levy for sanitation services.  Residents are being hit twice by the City and as of now, are refusing to budge.
Please take some time to attend the March 2nd City Council meeting and show your support for AFSCME Local 1234.  If you live in East Moline and are willing to speak in the public comment section please e-mail me at and we can help with talking points.
