LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — After a year of playing defense on state voter-identification bills, labor leaders say they want to “turn the tables” on Republicans and pass a series of voter measures that would expand voter registration rolls.
Voter legislation promises to be one of the most contested issues in state legislatures this year. Already, voter ID bills have been introduced in more than half a dozen states, including Alaska, Arkansas, Missouri, North Dakota and Virginia. Other measures include one in Texas that would require mailed ballots be written in English unless a voter specifies a different language
