The $54 dollar question

Today, we posted “The $54 Question” on our Iowa Policy Points blog. Find it here:

It’s a brief piece that exposes the fundamental policy holes in the political parlor trick that Iowa lawmakers used to pass the tax credits paid for through the ill-designed and poorly named Taxpayers Trust Fund. Ill-designed because the credits go largely to Iowa taxpayers who do not need the $54 (this will not benefit low-income taxpayers). Poorly named because the taxpayers’ trust should be placed in good public purposes for which taxes are designed — not squirreled away for tax breaks while priority services are left underfunded.

Now, a request: Please send us $54, or $540, or $5.40, to support our work calling attention to the pros and cons of public policy on taxes and budgets, jobs and works supports, and energy and the environment. You can do this with a secure donation online or send us a check to the address below.

If you already were planning to include us in your end-of-year giving, please consider this a reminder. If you have donated, what a great time to start! Please know, we cannot do the work without your support, which is tax-deductible.

Thank you for your interest in IPP, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Kind regards,
