Dozens of groups back Medicaid expansion

Four dozen Iowa advocacy groups are asking their members to lean on legislators and the governor to extend Medicaid health insurance to tens of thousands more poor Iowans.

“It will save money in the long run, and it will save lives,” John McCalley, representing the American Cancer Society, said at a Statehouse news conference Tuesday. McCalley said insured people are more likely to have their cancer caught in early stages, when the disease can be treated more effectively and less expensively.
