Group to rally for minimum wage increase

The Center for Worker Justice in Eastern Iowa says too many Iowans are struggling to support themselves and their families on $7.25 per hour, the current state and federal minimum wage. The group, along with The Iowa City Federation of Labor, will host a community rally this week to call for an increase to the minimum wage and stronger enforcement of existing wage payment laws.

The rally is set for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Fountain Stage on the pedestrian mall. A news release said Monday that speakers would include local low-wage workers who will share their experiences and how they’re organizing for change.
