Merkley, Buttigieg To Speak At Progress Iowa Corn Feed

Oregon Senator and South Bend Mayor to join Congressman Dave Loebsack, leaders from across Iowa at 3rd annual Progress Iowa Corn Feed on Sept. 10

Des Moines, Iowa – Progress Iowa announced today that Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon), Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-South Bend, Indiana), and Iowa’s own Congressman Dave Loebsack will be the featured speakers at the 3rd annual Progress Iowa Corn Feed on Sunday, September 10th.

The Progress Iowa Corn Feed will begin at 2:00 PM CT on Sunday, September 10th at the Simon Estes Amphitheater in Des Moines, and general admission tickets cost $30. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit http://progia.us/cornfeed.

“Senator Merkley and Mayor Buttigieg are both compelling progressive leaders that we’re thrilled to welcome to our state,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “After watching Senator Merkley stand up to President Trump’s agenda in Washington and hearing Mayor Buttigieg’s passionate advocacy for our shared progressive values on the national stage, we know that Iowans will be excited to hear their thoughts on how our country can move forward.”

“I am thrilled to again join folks from all across our state to enjoy some sweet corn, listen to great speakers and talk about our shared progressive values. But most importantly, we have to continue to work to keep progressives fired up and engaged in the fight for what we believe in, from local communities here in Iowa all the way to Washington,” said Congressman Dave Loebsack. “The Corn Feed gives progressive Democrats an opportunity to get together and fight for the ideas that are important to Iowa’s working families.”

“People across America are fired up to fight for an America that creates opportunity for everyone, not just the wealthy and the powerful,” said Senator Jeff Merkley. “They reject Donald Trump’s hate and xenophobia and believe in our basic promise of equal opportunity for all. Progress Iowa is leading the fight to defend Iowans’ health care, provide clean drinking water, and fight for living wage jobs and tax fairness, so I’m looking forward to joining them. And I can’t wait to try the corn!”

“The grassroots energy around the country is inspiring to see as we fight for our core values, and I’m excited to be part of it at the Progress Iowa Corn Feed,” said Mayor Pete Buttiegieg. “Events like the Corn Feed give us the opportunity to get organized and talk about how our hardworking friends and neighbors are being left behind, and how we can do better by standing together.”

In addition to the featured addresses from Merkley, Loebsack, and Buttiegieg, every announced Democratic candidate for Governor and Congress will be invited to speak. The complete agenda of speakers will be released as the event approaches. The Progress Iowa Corn Feed will also feature local progressive organizations, businesses, and artists for a fun-filled afternoon! Last year’s event drew hundreds of attendees and featured organizations and progressive leaders from across the state.

Progress Iowa is a multi-issue advocacy organization with an online community of nearly 70,000 progressives. Year-round, Progress Iowa advocates for a stronger middle class, first-class public education, and fairness for all Iowans under the law.
