DES MOINES — Progress Iowa today launched RunAwayRod.com, to hold Congressman #RunAwayRod Blum accountable for dodging questions from Iowans and fleeing a tough interview from a local reporter. Iowans are encouraged to add their name to the petition at RunAwayRod.com, which also includes information about Blum’s remaining town hall meetings this week, and the restrictions in place for Iowans who wish to attend.
“#RunAwayRod Blum put health care security at risk for thousands of Iowans, but he doesn’t care to listen to them,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “After refusing for months to hold town hall meetings, #RunAwayRod now only holds them by putting severe restrictions in place, preventing Iowans from engaging in an open discussion. Regardless of where they live, Iowans with pre-existing conditions are extremely concerned for their future because of Blum’s vote last week. But unless they live in his district, have registered in advance, and remember their photo ID, they will be turned away. That’s unfortunate and downright undemocratic. Congressman Blum should stop shutting out Iowans from his town halls immediately.”
Congressman #RunAwayRod Blum’s town hall meetings prevent any Iowan outside his district from attending. Those who live in his district won’t be allowed to attend unless they RSVP in advance and bring a photo ID. Even children under the age of 16 won’t be admitted unless they RSVP in advance. In addition, #RunAwayRod stormed out of a television interview in front of schoolchildren when asked about his restrictive meetings.
