DES MOINES, IA – Delegates of District Council 81 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, voted to endorse Bruce Braley for U.S. Senate.
District Council 81 represents approximately 2600 members who are public employees as well as construction workers in the painting, drywall and glazing industry.
“ There is no doubt in our minds that Congressman Braley will carry on Senator Harkin’s legacy of commitment to the middle class ” said Robert Gilmore Business Manager/Secretary Treasurer for IUPAT District Council 81.
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) is a union representing about 140,000 painters, glaziers, wall coverers, flooring installers, convention and trade show decorators, glassworkers, sign and display workers, asbestos worker/hazmat technician and drywall finishers in the United States and Canada. Most of its members work in the construction industry.
Originally called the Brotherhood of Painters and Decorators of America, the union was first formed in 1887. Local unions belong to district councils. District councils perform most of the services of the union. IUPAT is affiliated with the AFL-CIO in the U.S., and the Canadian Labour Congress in Canada.
