In his Aug. 16 column, Drew Klein of Americans for Prosperity presented their organization as being responsive to the needs of Iowa teachers. Nothing could be further from the truth, and their attack on the Iowa State Education Association isn’t what they present it to be.
Americans for Prosperity is one tentacle of the right-wing operation funded by the Koch brothers (with David Koch as chairman of the board), which spends an “unprecedented” amount of money to influence local policy.
The Koch brothers are infamous for spending hundreds of millions of dollars on political races, including here in Iowa. But they also influence state policies by backing groups like AFP. It’s part of the Koch brothers’ long-term plan to defund and de-legitimize public institutions like our schools, to insert their own private curriculum and profit as a result.
