Doctors signal more warnings about Iowa’s Medicaid plan

mathis clinton iowaMultiple Medicaid payment and service questions posed by health providers Wednesday went unanswered or would be discussed “offline” by state officials who nonetheless asserted that Iowa will be ready to transfer the $4.2 billion annual program to private managers on Jan. 1.

The questions voiced during the state’s Medical Assistance Advisory Council meeting are important because they directly relate to critical health services provided to 560,000 poor or disabled Iowans.

Some of the questions also hit on issues that could potentially derail Gov. Terry Branstad’s plan to launch the largest privatization effort in Iowa government history.
