October is rapidly approaching, and so is our next Organizers’ Roundtable! It’s scheduled for Friday, October 16th from 10am–Noon at the office of the Ames Organizing Project (546 Main Street in Ames). The program is free, but it’s helpful if participants rsvp to my email or the general Labor Center email, so we know how many handouts to bring.
As a reminder, the Organizers’ Roundtable is intended to be a place where union staff and leaders who are actually doing new organizing, or will soon be involved in new organizing, “talk shop” about organizing. It meets quarterly, to discuss question such as: What barriers and opposition are you facing on organizing campaigns? What are the best tools unions are using to prepare workers for the opposition they will face? How do you build strong in-shop committees that can sustain and lead the campaign to a successful election? How do you build lists, databases, and communication networks?
This session will focus on “inoculation” –anticipating the opposition in an election campaign, and preparing committees to respond. I will provide case studies/examples of written communications materials. It would also be terrific if you would bring your own examples of opposition flyers or videos you have faced, and materials you have used to prepare workers or respond.
