“Medicaid Madness” grips the Iowa Statehouse

DES MOINES — A coalition of small business owners, health-care providers, and citizen organizations from around Iowa launched a “Healthiest Iowa Initiative” Monday in hopes of convincing Republican Gov. Terry Branstad to expand the Medicaid program to more needy Iowans.

Iowa has the opportunity to approve a Medicaid expansion as part of Obamacare that will provide health insurance coverage to another 150,000 working Iowans whose incomes are below the federal poverty guidelines, said Sue Dinsdale, executive director of Iowa Citizen Action Network – one of the 23 coalition member organizations.
